Viniyoga

Breath-led yoga, adapted to you · with Karin Leppens

Service Description

Yoga made to measure. Viniyoga is one word and one idea: the practice adapts to the person, never the other way round. The term comes from Patañjali's Yoga Sūtra (III.6), where viniyoga means appropriate, step-by-step application. The approach was developed by T. Krishnamacharya, the teacher behind much of modern yoga, and carried forward by his son T.K.V. Desikachar, whose tradition Karin follows. In a Viniyoga session the breath leads and the movement follows. Postures are adjusted to your body, your energy and what you need that day, and sequences are built with intention (vinyasa krama) rather than performed for their shape. Each hour weaves together gentle, breath-linked movement, pranayama (breathwork) and meditation. Hatha 'op maat', in the truest sense. What people notice: a steadier breath; a freer spine, hips and shoulders; a quieter mind; better sleep; and a short practice of their own to take home. Open to everyone. Beginners, people who feel stiff or 'not flexible', those returning to movement after a pause, busy minds, and experienced practitioners who want depth rather than intensity. Because the session is private, there is nothing to keep up with and no one to compare yourself to. Wear loose clothing that lets you move freely, and bring a mat and a blanket. Best not on a full stomach. Taught by Karin Leppens, independent yoga practitioner (karinleppens.com). Yoga is offered as a wellbeing practice; it is not therapy or medical treatment.
